Sunpine invests 250 million in new factory
SunPine is investing in a new factory. An investment of 250 million SEK.
– The market for our sustainable tall oil diesel is growing and we want to take responsibility for the Swedish fuel switch to renewable fuels, says Magnus Edin, CEO, SunPine.
The owners have made the decision, SunPine is now investing in a brand new facility adjacent to its factory on Haraholmen in Piteå. Capacity will be increased by 50 percent.
Magnus Edin, CEO, SunPine:
– We are now at a point where we can confidently take the next step in development. We are already a world-leading sustainable biorefinery with a portfolio of green products that meet good market demand.
– We are now investing 250 million to increase the capacity of tall oil diesel by 50 percent. This could mean up to 20 new jobs directly in our own operations, but considerably more through all the services we will procure. This spring, the application for an environmental permit will be made and procurement of materials and services will begin. We hope to be able to start production in the new facility in 2020.
The main focus is to increase the production capacity of tall diesel, which reaches consumers via Preem as Sweden's only Nordic Ecolabelled diesel:
– With the right conditions, SunPine could account for 14 percent of the need for all renewable diesel in Sweden by 2030. It would be great if Sweden could take that position, as a role model. I am convinced that sustainable Swedish forestry can account for a significant part of all of Sweden's need for renewable fuels, says Edin.
Working actively to develop and expand its operations is part of SunPine's effort to contribute to the green transition of society at large.
Edin:
– SunPine's products are by definition sustainable. That is our business concept: "SunPine's process and employees shall be world leaders in the manufacture of sustainable products based on sustainable forestry."
– So we are more than just a world-leading biorefinery. We are actually world-improvers who deliver concrete climate benefits. And in 2017 we delivered it at record levels, Edin concludes.
