Our view on sustainability

Next-level energy mix.

The world quickly needs to transition away from fossil fuels. Sunpine's Raw Tall Diesel and Bio-oil will play a crucial role in the energy mix of the future.

WE SELL FOSSIL FREEDOM. Sunpine´s offering centres on reducing our customers’ dependence on fossil fuels. At Sunpine, we know that every litre of Raw Tall Diesel and bio-oil we sell helps decrease the world’s reliance on fossil energy. This is the foundation of our business. But being truly sustainable goes further than the products we provide. It entails making a positive impact on the environment, mitigating climate change, and promoting social sustainability throughout our entire value chain.

  • OUR FOUNDER

"The rich man is running on the poor man's food"

    Lars Stigsson, founder of Sunpine

Chemical engineer Lars Stigsson was quick to recognise the environmental impact of fossil fuels – and saw the potential to create an alternative based on plant-derived fatty acids. At the same time, he was determined that the raw material used should not compete with global food production, nor the use of arable land. The solution – and the foundation of Sunpine – was crude tall oil: a 100 per cent renewable by-product from the pulp and paper industry.

    District heating

    1,770,970 kWh

HEAT FOR OUR NEIGHBOURS Sunpine’s production process generates excess heat. This is distributed by PiteEnergi as district heating to nearby industries and facilities at Haraholmen. In total, there are approximately 2.5 kilometres of district heating pipes at Haraholmen, and during 2025 Sunpine supplied the equivalent of 1,770,970 kWh of district heating to PiteEnergi.

    There is no final destination.

SUSTAINABILITY IS AN ONGOING PROCESS, a journey without a final destination. Challenging ourselves and examining our own impact is a central part of our strategy. To make an actual difference, we must dare to ask the difficult questions and continuously strive for improvement. Questioning our own sustainability may well be Sunpine’s most important tool for advancing it.
