Sunpine was named growth company of the year in Piteå

SunPine has been named Growth Company of the Year in Piteå 2015. The jury consisted of branch managers at Handelsbanken, Nordea and Sparbanken Nord. The nomination is motivated by the fact that since the start of production in 2010, SunPine has gone from being a start-up company to becoming one of Piteå's largest companies in terms of turnover.

The justification states: The increase in turnover went from 0 to 1.1 billion SEK, which is very impressive, especially considering that the company operates in a technically complex industry with world-unique processes. The company has shown positive results since 2013 and currently has just over 40 employees and employs at least as many from other companies.

– SunPine has had a strong and positive development. With the foundation in sustainable forestry, a billion-sek company has grown. In 2009, the company existed only on drawings and in 2013 the intended production capacity was achieved, at the same time as the company became profitable. In 2015, SunPine is profitable for the third year in a row, producing 2 percent of the diesel consumed in Sweden, 100,000 cubic meters, or 100 million liters of tall diesel, says Magnus Edin, CEO of SunPine.

Every year, SunPine produces approximately 100,000 m3 of tall oil diesel, which is included as a raw material in Preem's product Evolution Diesel. SunPine thereby contributes to reducing carbon dioxide emissions in Sweden by approximately 250,000 tons per year. The Swedish government and parliament have set a goal for Sweden to be fossil-free by 2050. An interim goal is a fossil-independent vehicle fleet as early as 2030, and SunPine's operations thus make a significant contribution to the political goals of green transition. The company is a very good example of how Sweden can develop new green technology and create new green jobs.
