Joint initiative to increase knowledge about how menopause affects working life.
By joining forces, SunPine and Kreativgruppen want to increase understanding and knowledge about how menopause affects working life. Therefore, the companies are now investing in basic training for managers, leaders and employees. The lecturer is Menopause Coach Åse Borgeryd, who also works with sports and women's health.
Studies conducted on the connection between menopause and women's working lives show that both work ability and relationships with colleagues and managers can be affected.
Two out of three women experience discomfort associated with menopause and one in four women report that it negatively affects their work ability, performance, motivation and relationships at work. This in turn can lead to women having to reduce their working hours or, in the worst case, leaving the workplace if they do not receive the right support.
For the employer, reduced productivity and an increase in the number of sick days mean higher costs. There are therefore economic reasons for raising the issue of menopause in relation to the workplace, but also humanitarian reasons that concern the health and well-being of each employee.
– This is something that has been noted in our management teams. Both David and I felt that the better our organizations become at understanding and supporting those who suffer from various symptoms related to menopause, the better we function as a workplace and employer. We need to get better at talking about menopause because it really affects everyone, directly or indirectly, says Joakim Hedqvist, Operations Manager NORD at Kreativgruppen.
– As an employer, we invest in keeping women in the workplace during menopause to ensure that we do not lose out on a workforce with valuable skills and talent, says David Öquist, CEO of SunPine.
– Our goal with this initiative is to help managers and employees more easily identify situations in daily work that may arise in connection with menopausal symptoms, continues David Öquist.
The first training session was held on Tuesday, November 28th.
– This was a really good initiative and an eye-opener for us. We will invite our partners and customers to a joint lecture in December, to also spread this knowledge within our networks, concludes Joakim Hedqvist.
